We are UPDATED!

Thank you again for your patience as I updated the blog! As always, please check my Twitter account for more regular updates. The MATH and LITERACY pages have been updated.

This week is another busy one! We have our grade 7 immunizations, bus safety, spirit assembly, and Halloween dance. Amidst this busy-ness, we are in the middle of our Math Congress! What is this, you might ask? Stay tuned for my next post on the SUB PROBLEM where I will be discussing open-ended math problems, gallery walks, and congress. For now, please ask your son/daughter about what they have been learning in math congress (Hint: adding fractions with common denominators and repeated addition/multiplication).

In Dance, we are currently working on a variety of Swing Dance moves (i.e.: walking step, step touch, triple-step, kick ball change, the Charleston). I hope to update our ARTS page in the coming weeks with more information!

In Social Studies, we are looking at key components of Canada and are preparing a slideshow! We are learning how to create an effective slideshow, using multimedia, limited words, and bullets.

In Health, we have found articles on a variety of health issues and have learned to summarize these non-fiction articles. I will be revealing an exciting project to the students in the coming weeks which they will need to use their summaries for! As well, Ms. Xuereb, our student teacher, is working on learning about sugar content in our food with our students.

We are really working on developing empathy and learning about what issues in the world we feel passionate about. Students are encouraged to think of "GOOD DEEDS" they can accomplish throughout the week. This is only a piece of what we are working on in class. In each area of learning, we are tying in the concept of social responsibility. Families are encouraged to talk about world issues which are important to them. This type of dialogue will encourage our students to continue to think about how they'd like to help. In January, students will be asked to think about how they can use their GENIUS HOUR topic to help others.

I'll be sure to keep you posted!
